KI in der Wissenschaft: Wenn die KI so tut, als sei sie Einstein. DIE ZEIT, No. 36

DM3L postdoc Dr. Juni Schindler was interviewed by DIE ZEIT journalist Rudi Novotny about their research on the impact of generative AI on academic peer review. Using the example of the peer-review crisis at this year's International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR 2026), where an estimated 21% of reviews were fully AI-generated, Juni explained how AI-generated reviews express lower confidence yet award higher scores, and refer to AI models more often. These quantitative findings are complemented by qualitative interviews exploring how conference participants experience generative AI in their dual role as authors and reviewers. The research is being conducted in collaboration with Prof. Alexandre Bovet (also DM3L), Prof. Matthew Fuller (Goldsmiths, University of London), and Dr. Goda Klumbytė (University of Salzburg).
